A Milford man was killed Thursday when he lost control of his pickup on U.S. 30, Warsaw.

Derek W. Nicholson, 29, CR 250W, was found dead at 10 a.m. Thursday under the overpass at U.S. 30 and Ind. 15.

A Warsaw police officer on patrol spotted Nicholson's pickup near the railroad grade and found Nicholson's body. Alcohol is considered a factor in the accident.

According to Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department reports, the vehicle was apparently traveling west on U.S. 30. The pickup left the road for an unknown reason and continued to drive into the median over 700 feet until it reached the railroad overpass.

The vehicle then became airborne and landed on its wheels on the railroad tracks. The Conrail tracks also suffered damage.

Nicholson was pronounced dead at the scene by Kosciusko County Coroner Larry Ladd of internal chest injuries. It was undetermined how long Nicholson's vehicle was there.

Warsaw Police Department, Warsaw Fire Department and Multi-Township EMS responded to the scene. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department is continuing the investigation.
