AKRON — A.C. Prater, 76, Rochester, died at 8:26 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at his residence.

He was born March 24, 1942,  in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Harry and Polly Hale Prater. On June 29, 1962, in Silver Lake, he was married to JoAnn Smith. She preceded on May 28, 2010.

A.C. owned and operated Prater Auto Sales for over 40 years in Rochester.

He was a faithful attendee and supporter of Church of the Nazarene, Rochester, and was also a member of the church board.  He enjoyed hunting and going to auto auctions.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.  

He was known to help many people get an automobile when they were in need.

Survivors include a daughter, Patti (and husband William) Cunningham, Akron; a granddaughter, Tiffany (and husband Scott) Cooksey, Akron; three grandsons: B.J. Cunningham, Akron; Chad Cunningham, Akron; and Derrick (and wife Ariel) Cunningham, Akron; great -grandchildren:  Ian, Ella, Kylie, Will and Taylor; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Manns, Warsaw; and a special family friend, Sal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn Prater; brothers, Monroe and Orville Prater; and sisters, Ella Manns and Virginia Rawlins.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Frank Whitaker, Pastor Don Meyer and Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Rochester.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Hartzler Funeral Home.
