ABM, along with SHARP Electronics Corp., announced the first-ever SHARP Minds Math Challenge will be at Madison Elementary School.
ABM donated 243 SHARP EL-S25BBL Quiz Calculators for students in grades 3-5 so they can participate in a fun contest that will help develop their interest in math.
"Together with SHARP Electronics, we are looking forward to working with Madison Elementary School and hope that the SHARP Minds Math Challenge will encourage kids to get excited about learning" said Dave Ferro, sales manager of ABM.
Dan Maucher, vice president of ABM, said, "We are proud to be involved in a program that is dedicated to the education of today's youth. It was an easy choice for ABM to support a program that gives something back to the community."
The contest is designed for students to experience math in a fun, light environment with a dose of healthy competition. Using SHARP's Quiz Calculator with built-in mathematical drills and functions, including a unique Flash Card Functionality, students will compete for prizes by answering a series of math problems correctly and quickly.
Students in grade 3 will be given 25 addition questions, and students in grades 4 and 5 will be given 25 random questions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). The challenge will consist of three timed rounds per classroom. The winner of each classroom then advances to a championship round against other classroom winners in the same grade. The SHARP Minds Math Challenge Championship Winners from each grade will receive a $50 Discovery Store gift card, and the student's classroom will receive a $100 VISA gift card for a classroom celebration.
Bob Bain, government account executive with SHARP said, "We realize that it will take the support of each classroom teacher to make the SHARP Minds Math Challenge a fun and meaningful event for the students. We thank Jeff Neumann for his full espousal of this event."
Michael Kite, solutions executive with ABM, said, "We also wish to express our thanks to Steve Stichter, assistant business manager with Warsaw Community Schools for his valued assistance in the coordination of this effort.
"When the competition is over, ABM and Madison Elementary have agreed to give each student the calculator as a gift and an educational tool for the future."
