ABC Renews Stacy's License

Stacy's Sports Inn, Leesburg, was granted a license renewal at Thursday's Alcohol Beverage Commission meeting despite violations.

The violations were for allowing a minor to loiter at the establishment, and for serving a minor alcohol during a sweep of establishments by excise police in August.

Tyler Haines, Stacy's Sports Inn manager, was on hand during the hearing.

He said the establishment received a $500 fine."For 38 years we've never had anything like this happen, and we are doing our best to card everyone now," Haines said.

Board member Elim Smith made a motion to approve the license renewal, and board member Kenneth Johnson seconded the motion. President Gordon Vanator was absent during Thursday's meting.

In other business, the commission approved renewing an escrow license for Maple Leaf Grille, Warsaw.

During the commission's Feb. 4 meeting, it decided to continue a hearing on Maple Leaf Grille's permit.

John Tucker, Maple Leaf Grille owner, attended Thursday's meeting and said the business has been in escrow for three years.

Tucker said the business has been put up for lease and he received seven purchase offers, but the financing on them has not come through.

"We are trying to continue to market the business as soon as we can and we've considered an auction as a possibility for the property," Tucker said.

April Tackett, excise officer, said an escrow permit allows a restaurant to still hold a liquor license in escrow until they sell the business or re-open it.

The board approved the following renewals of establishments with no violations for beer, wine and liquor renewals:

n Gorditas Aguas Calientes, Warsaw.

n American Legion Post 258, Pierceton.

n Marsh Drugs, Warsaw.

n Downtown Eatery & Spirits, Warsaw.

A beer and wine license renewal was approved for Village Pantry, Warsaw.
