ABC Approves Retailer Permits For Louie's

Posted

Louie's Bar & Grill, East Bowser Road, Syracuse, will be able to serve liquor in about a month.

Thursday, the Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Commission approved the business' petition for a new beer, wine and liquor retailer permit and a new Sunday sales retailer permit.

According to Steve Yoder of Louie's, the business is principally a restaurant and already has beer and wine. Food, he said, is "the biggest share of our business at this point, anyway." Since the business' beginning, he said, "it's always been beer and wine." By adding liquor to their menu, Yoder said, he believes it will enhance the business.

According to excise officer Heather Cleveland, the permit will go before the state commission on the first or third Tuesday of the month, whenever it makes their agenda. Before they can purchase liquor, the Yoders have to receive the permit from the state. However, until they get that permit, they can continue carry-out sales, she said. The permit approved for the Yoders does not allow them to have carry-out sales if they have liquor sales.

Automatic renewals approved by the ABC Thursday included:

• Vintage France, Park Avenue, Winona Lake, beer and wine dealer permit.

• Boathouse Restaurant, Park Avenue, Winona Lake, beer and wine and Sunday sales retailer permits.

• Silver Inn Tavern, North Jefferson Street, Silver Lake, beer, wine and liquor and Sunday sales retailer permits.

• Maxie's Restaurant, East John Street, Syracuse, beer, wine and liquor and Sunday sales retailer permits.

• The Post, North First Street, Pierceton, beer, wine and liquor retailer permit.

• Wawasee Bowling Lanes, Ind. 13N, Syracuse, beer, wine and liquor and Sunday sales retailer permits.

• Duckey's R&R Saloon, South Main Street, Claypool, beer, wine and liquor retailer permit.

Members of the ABC are president Darwin Call, Gordon Vanator, Kenneth Johnson and an excise officer. They meet at 1 p.m. in the county courthouse, Warsaw, on the first Thursday of every month.
