ABC Approves License For Jot Em Down Store At Barbee

Posted

To meet customer demand, Jot Em Down Store petitioned the Kosciusko Alcoholic Beverage Commission for a new beer and wine dealer permit Thursday.

Excise Officer Patty Fleck said the convenience store, at 3774 N. Barbee Road, Warsaw, doesn't offer gasoline and "it's more full than grocery stores. I was very impressed."

Jot Em Down Store has all the required products, and shoppers can eat there, too.

Rick L. Secor, petitioner, said the store has many people who spend their vacation time in the area ask when the store will be selling beer so they don't have to drive all the way into town to buy it.

For the size of the convenience store, Fleck said, it's very unique in the amount of products they offer. "There just wasn't anything that I didn't see there," she said.

Secor presented the board with 312 signatures of people who want the store to be able to offer beer.

"I was impressed," Fleck later said again. "It's just a mini-superstore, that's what it is."

The ABC unanimously approved the petition for the new permit.

Kmart, Lake City Highway, Warsaw, requested a transfer of ownership for its beer and wine dealer permit, which was approved.

Fleck said through Kmart's bankruptcy proceedings, the local Kmart store - which was its own entity - is now going back to the corporation. Kmart has 135 alcohol permits in Indiana.

The renewals for a beer, wine and liquor and Sunday sales retailer permits for Bud's Bar, Main Street, Milford, were continued to the June 3 ABC meeting. The bar has a violation against it, but the bar has not yet taken care of the fine. Fleck continued the renewal until the owner could settle the matter.

She said the business basically bought alcohol off someone they were not supposed to buy alcohol from.

In another matter, the commission approved the renewal for Gordy's Sub Pub's beer, wine and liquor retailer permit. Then the transfer of stock for the permit was approved. Gordy's Sub Pub is on East Winona Avenue, Warsaw.

The ABC also approved the following permits:
