Earlier this fall I warned you there would be some weeks where I would offer you a series of thoughts lumped together into one article. I call it serving up leftovers. This one brings you a list of things I noticed or was reminded of this last weekend: • We get mad at kids because of how they act, but it’s important to remember that we adults are supposed to teach kids how to act. They act the way they do by watching us. • The Chicago Bears have quit. No fire. No passion. Just a lot of blank stares and shaking heads. The complete lack of effort against Green Bay Sunday night means the Mess of the Midway must at season’s end gut the coaching staff and roster and do a Cubs-like rebuild. We expected this from the Cubs, but all summer we were looking forward to the fall and winter with the Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. The Bulls look like the best hope, huh? • There is an Old Testiment Bible verse that says “be sure your sins will find you out.” In football terms, that translates to “if you keep turning the ball over, eventually you will lose a game from it.” Everett Golson had four interceptions and carelessly lost a fumble that set up one touchdown and got Notre Dame beat Saturday at Arizona State. But this is NOT a huge surprise. Golson had turned it over six times the last two weeks – most of them just careless devaluing of the football. • Our community is SO giving! Our radio stations put on Food-A-Thon again last weekend and you stepped up and helped us help people in Kosciusko County have food this winter. We are grateful and humbled. Thank you! • I know I already mentioned the Bears but MAN, they just stink SO bad! I cannot get over how lifeless and brutally bad they are! I ended up watching re-runs of Storage Wars to help me go to sleep. Sorry…where was I? Oh yah… • Raking leaves to the curb is very romantic...sucking them directly into a bag with your power machine is fabulous! • I like IU basketball coach Tom Crean a lot, but I don’t know how he’s going to survive the mess that has popped up. I hope Hoosier fans will keep in mind that Crean came to Bloomington when no one else would and took over the tire fire that Kelvin Sampson turned it into. And he made them No. 1. • Girls basketball starts this week. “No, I’m not ready yet” is the answer to the most asked question of me. But I better get there, because Huntington North is coming to the Tiger Den Saturday night and the Warsaw roster looks very different than the one that finished last year. • And finally, there is nothing better on this Earth than waking up at 9 a.m. Saturday and making my almost-five-year-old girl French Toast. Add a little hash browns, pork sausage…I am no cook, but I ROCK at making breakfast! I just hope I don’t yell touchdown Saturday night. That would be bad…like the Bears. Did I mention them already? Oh, ok. Good.
