Editor, Times-Union: I could not believe that two of the major television stations did not have the decency to take a moment of silence for those who lost their lives on 9/11. They were airing something much more important, the shallow lives of the Kardasians. Shame on them. The values of the “Today Show” and “Good Morning America” do not reflect America’s values. In sharp contrast, I attended a beautiful 9/11 ceremony organized by Mike Cox, Ken Locke and many volunteers. Mayor Joe Thallemer gave a beautiful speech on how America changed that day and our way of life forever. What has not changed is the pride and love we hold in our hearts for all the heroes of 9/11. I am so proud to live in a community where we will never forget the fact that thousands of mothers, fathers, sons and daughters lost their lives at the hands of evil. Mr. Cox mentioned that choosing the date of 9/11, the code for help, was deliberate in an effort to render Americans helpless. What the evil forces did not understand is that when we are at our darkest hour is when we are the strongest. We saw our fire fighters and police officers enter burning buildings to save lives disregarding their own safety. Ordinary citizens taking over a plane knowing their lives would be lost but knew so many lives would be saved. Thank you, Ken, Mike and volunteers of the Patriot Day Ceremony for keeping the torch lit. You are heros, too. Rebecca Kubacki, State Representative Syracuse, via e-mail
