Eight teen-agers were charged and a Warsaw business cited because of underage drinking.

Officers from the Indiana State Excise Police, Warsaw and Winona Lake police departments and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department were following up on a complaint about minors being inside El Palacio Tropical on Anchorage Road in Warsaw.

Police went to the business at 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

In addition to charging eight minors with illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages, the business was cited for three counts of sales of alcoholic beverages to minors and 20 counts of allowing minors in a tavern/prohibited.

Excise police were asked to investigate the business after an incident there earlier this year. In that case, police arrested several people for fighting outside the establishment and noted that the doors were kept locked, with people let in or out on request, and several minors were reportedly inside at the time.

El Palacio Tropical was approved in November for an alcohol retailer's permit, transfer of ownership and Sunday sales.

According to an Excise Police press release, a report from Sunday's investigation will be forwarded to the Indiana Alcoholic Beverage Commission prosecutor. The owner of the business is Salvador Martinez.
