NORTH MANCHESTER – Jay J. “Butch” Shepherd, 62, of North Manchester, died at 2:35 a.m. May 28, 2011, in Wabash Skilled Care Center.
He was born May 6, 1949, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Jay and Mollie Hall Shepherd, who preceded him in death. On May 21, 1971, he married Cathy S. Miller, who survives.
He worked at Eaton Controls, North Manchester, for 25 years. He graduated from South Whitley High School in 1967 and attended Ivy Tech, Wabash, until his illness. He was a real handyman and very skilled at repairing computers. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.
Surviving are a daughter, Lori A. (and spouse Clifford) Seat, Fort Wayne; two brothers, Clark Shepherd, Packerton, and George (and spouse Cathy) Shepherd, Claypool; six sisters: Katherine (and spouse Lester) Calhoun, Atwood; Norma (and spouse Don) Lepper, Larwill; Mollie (and spouse Jeff) Eisinger, North Webster; Grace (and spouse Terry) Woodling, Florida; Jeanette (and spouse Perry) Kirkland, Dallas, Texas;  Connie (and spouse Kevin) Hobbs, Palestine; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Toby J. Shepherd, who died Nov. 27, 2010; and two sisters, Ruby Besson and Josie Murphy.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114W., North Manchester, with Pastors Kurt Stout and Chad McAtee officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
