OSWEGO - A 5-year-old girl is with Child Protective Services after a Tuesday night incident where she was found near the Oswego laundromat during Tuesday night's severe weather.

At 10:58 p.m. Tuesday, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department officer Shawn Castillo responded to a call at 2965 E. Clay St., Oswego.

David Bingaman, Oswego, came across a 5-year-old girl who had left her grandparents house. Bingaman said the girl stated she was "wet and cold."

Child Protective Services was called and told police the girl would be placed in a "safe home for the night."

The child's grandmother stated the girl had been with her and her husband since Nov. 20. From then until Tuesday night, the child has left the house on five separate occasions despite the house having an alarm system.

The child was with the grandparents because she kept wandering from her parents' home in Warsaw.

The 5-year-old even ended up at Warsaw Community High School on one occasion.

According to the grandmother, the parents are expected to get custody of the girl after they finish putting in a motion-detector system.

"This child has no fear," said the grandmother. "I have 11 grandchildren, and this one has me baffled."
