NEW PARIS – Five people were injured Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of U.S. and Ind. 15.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, a 2009 International semi, driven by Danyell Fifer, 47, Fort Wayne, was stopped facing southbound on Ind. 15 waiting to turn east onto U.S. 6.
A 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Brian Mikel, 67, New Paris, was northbound on Ind. 15 approaching U.S. 6.
The third vehicle, a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by Shirley Bontrager, 32, Syracuse, was westbound on U.S. 6. Bontrager disregarded the red traffic signal and proceeded into the intersection, the report states. Mikel’s Silverado collided with the driver’s side of Bontrager’s Chrysler. The Chrysler then spun and the passenger side collided with the front of Fifer’s semi.
The collision occurred at approximately 3:08 p.m. Thursday.
Shirley Bontrager did not suffer any injuries but was cited for disregarding a lighted signal. The report also states that Daniel Bontrager, 4; Elmer Bontrager, 3; and Cayden Bontrager, 1, all of Syracuse, complained of head pain.
Mikel complained of shoulder pain, while Fifer complained of body pain.
