Forty-six students from Warsaw Christian School participated in the Association of Christian Schools International Speech Meet in Kokomo March 19.
Students in grades one through six competed in poetry and Bible memorization. In addition, students in grades two through four competed in fable and folklore, while students in grades five and six competed in patriotic oration, dramatic Bible prose, and two sixth-grade students competed in original speech.
WCS students competing in poetry were: first grade, Joy Hanes and Jack Mayer; second grade, Sam Turner and Carter Schuh; third grade, Renae Rogers and Lauren Starrett; fourth grade, Joshua Turner, Alicia Ochoa, Lauren Wayman and Alyssa Teune; fifth grade, Joshua Schuh and Chance Blair; and sixth grade, Elizabeth Brown and Nic Whitmyer.
Participants in Bible memorization were: first grade, Avery Hobbs and Lia Stichter; second grade, Tali Stichter and Katie Juillerat; third grade, Patrick Bollinger and Anderson Wonderly; fourth grade, JaneKatherine Hanes, Heather Plastow, Michael Nunez and Syndey Hobbs; fifth grade, Tiffany Rusinack and Jeremy David; and sixth grade, Nilsson Silveus and Whitney Boren.
Students competing in fable and folklore were: second grade, Parker Stewart and Joshua Fisher; third grade, Anna Reimink and Rachel Juillerat; and fourth grade, Brady Gross, Jay Groninger, Nick Zogbi and Connor O'Hara.
The students competing in patriotic oration were: fifth grade, Zachary Biggs and Megan Baxter; and sixth grade, Clarissa Harvey and Max Rogers.
Jacob Meulink and Pearl McKeever represented the fifth grade in dramatic Bible prose. Marina Schuh and Stone Rager represented the sixth grade in the same category.
Caroline Mayer and Analiese Helms, sixth grade, wrote original speeches for the meet.
The purpose of the speech meet activity is to encourage effective speaking in an audience situation, to help students develop techniques to speak audibly, articulately, expressively and with poise and confidence, and to develop communication skills which will contribute to effective leadership in Christian activities.Donna Miller is the school's speech meet coordinator.
