COLUMBIA CITY - A 19-year-old North Manchester man was sentenced in the drunk-driving death of a Columbia City woman Wednesday morning.
Daniel Knecht, North Manchester, was sentenced in Whitley County Circuit Court to four years in jail.
On May 23 at 11:18 p.m., Knecht was driving a black Audi west on Ind. 14 when he left the road, struck a utility pole, then hit another utility pole, knocking down power lines.
Knecht left the scene of the accident. Several minutes later, a Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by William C. Brienstine IV with Nikki Alford as a passenger, struck the wreckage.
Both Brienstine and Alford were airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Alford died the following day. Brienstine survived.
