39 New COVID-19 Cases In Kosciusko, A Second Death ReportedKosciusko County saw its biggest increase yet in the number of new COVID-19 cases between noon Friday and noon Monday and a second death.

The Kosciusko County Health Department reported receiving 39 new cases during that 72-hour time span. That gives the county a total of 159 positive cases, according to the KCHD daily news release.

“Unfortunately, Kosciusko County has another COVID-19 death, bringing the county to a total of two COVID-19 deaths. Kosciusko County has not had a COVID-19 death since April 8,” the release states.

Numerous actions have also been taken by the KCHD to attempt to mitigate the current increase of cases in Kosciusko County, the release states.

As of May 18, the Indiana State Department of Health assumed responsibility for case investigations and contact tracing. However, due to the rise in cases in Kosciusko County, the KCHD will resume reaching out to all positive COVID-19 Kosciusko County residents.

On May 29, the KCHD initiated a COVID-19 contact line for Spanish speakers. As the number of cases continue to rise within the Hispanic community, this line will be used to reach out to Spanish-speaking positive COVID-19 cases. The phone number for the Spanish line is 574-372-3509 and the voicemail for this line will be checked daily.

KCHD is partnering with local community resources to improve access and communication to the under-served communities.

The Indiana State Department of Health on Monday announced that 292 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 34,830 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.

Intensive care unit and ventilator capacity remain steady. As of today, nearly 41% of ICU beds and nearly 84% of ventilators are available, the ISDH reports.

A total of 1,976 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of nine over the previous day. This includes one previously probable case that was later lab-confirmed. Another 166 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record, following a correction to the previous day’s total. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.

To date, 265,896 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 261,546 on Sunday.

Hoosiers who have symptoms of COVID-19 and those who have been exposed and need a test to return to work are encouraged to visit a state-sponsored testing site for free testing. Individuals without symptoms who are at high risk because they are over age 65, have diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or another underlying condition, as well as those who are pregnant, live with a high-risk individual or are a member of a minority population that is at greater risk for severe illness, also are encouraged to get tested, the ISDH release states.
