WINONA LAKE - Thirty-four Grace College students were inducted in the Indiana Gamma chapter of Alpha Chi in a ceremony held in McClain Auditorium on Grace College Campus Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.

This was the 30th induction ceremony to take place at Grace.

The induction ceremony emphasized the ideals of Alpha Chi, as well as formally enrolling and honoring new members. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of the junior and senior classes. The students inducted this year at Grace College had a minimum grade point average of 3.8.

Faculty sponsors are Joseph P. Lehmann, associate professor of English; Richard A. Dilling, professor of mathematics and science; Donald B. DeYoung, professor of physics; and George F. Slaughter, professor of psychology.

Alpha Chi is a co-educational national honor scholarship society dedicated to promoting academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students and to honoring students who achieve such distinction. An honor society as opposed to a recognition society, Alpha Chi predicates its membership upon accomplishments rather than mere interest or participation.

Its name derives from the initial letters in the Greek words meaning "truth" and "character."As a general honor society, Alpha Chi admits students from all academic disciplines rather than from a single area of study. Affiliated since 1955 with the Association of College Honor Societies, Alpha Chi is the second oldest and second largest general honor society in the parent organization.
