Which team will be this year's Quiz Bowl champions?
In 2006, the Source One Insurance team retained the trophy for a second year, finishing first with 52 points. Second was the Ivy Tech Community College Team, and third was the Lakeview Middle School-DePuy team. Can Source One win again? Or will another team come out on top?
Find out Tuesday when the Quiz Bowl returns from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Warsaw Community High School Career Center gym. The four categories this year are academics, year-end review, outer space and cartoons.
According to Warsaw Community Education Foundation board member JoElla Smyth, there are 30 confirmed teams as of this morning. "Our goal was to get 40 and we're still getting checks and teams," she said. Teams likely will be accepted up to the last minute.
Each team pays $250 to participate and all the money goes directly to the WCEF.
The Foundation is a group of business professionals and school personnel that work together to support Warsaw schools. The board is set up to help raise awareness of the needs of school programs, and raise money for projects teachers otherwise could not afford.
"We've had wonderful support with teams coming back and new teams coming in," said Smyth. Corporations in the community also have been supportive, she said.
Lake City Bank is providing the half-time snacks and table munchies. Other large contributors are Mutual Federal Savings Bank, R.R. Donnelley, Rabb/Kinetico Water Systems and Reneker's.
"This is a great way (for businesses) to have fun, get some notoriety," said Smyth.
Harvey Miller, of WRSW, will moderate again this year. The questions were compiled by Brad Brail.
But you don't have to be in the Quiz Bowl to enjoy it.
"People are allowed to just come watch the fun," said Smyth. Volunteers also are still being sought to serve as proctors.
And there is the possibility of a surprise competitor. But to find out who that is, and who will win the 2007 edition of the Quiz Bowl, attend Tuesday's competition.
