NORTH MANCHESTER - Carmen Lynn Rogers DeFusco and Todd Steven Shumaker have been named co-valedictorians, and Michael Isaiah Good was named salutatorian at Manchester High School for the class of 2000.
DeFusco and Shumaker earned perfect 11.0 grade point averages at the end of seven semesters.
DeFusco, the daughter of Ed DeFusco and Cindy Rogers, is the recipient of an academic honors diploma, the "I Dare You" leadership award, the President's Award for Educational Excellence, the MVP and Squire Award in tennis, and the Rotary Mental Attitude Award and the Drive, Determination and Desire Award in gymnastics. She has been involved in varsity tennis and gymnastics, Junior Achievement and National Honor Society. She served an internship at Manchester Elementary School and volunteered at the North Manchester Public Library.
She plans to attend Ball State University as an elementary education major.
Todd Shumaker, the son of Steve and Dee Shumaker, has been editor-in-chief of the yearbook and newpaper staffs and was in National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Campus Life; was captain of the tennis team; performed as an actor; and was class president for three years. He also was a Junior Achievement classroom consultant and earned such honors as Quill and Scroll International Honorary for high school journalists, "Crest" Leadership Award, Purdue University Junior Scholar in physics, "I Dare You" leadership award, academic excellence, President's Award for Educational Excellence and National Scholastic Press Association Honor Roll.
He plans to attend Taylor University and major in accounting or another business-related field, and law.
Michael Good, salutatorian, earned a 10.86 GPA on an 11.0 scale. He was active in tennis, golf, basketball and baseball; and was a member of the student council, Amnesty International and A Cappella Choir. He also is a member of the Church of the Brethren youth group and of the Manchester Soccer Club. Honors include academic excellence, National Merit Commended Student, Project XL finalist, tennis team MVP, Squire Award and the Xerox Outstanding Junior in Humanities Award.
After graduation, Good plans to attend a four-year college to major in music performance with a future career in performing or teaching music. He is the son of Dave and Lois Good.
