Three Kosciusko County high school seniors were surprised this week with the news they have been granted full-ride scholarships to the Indiana college of their choice.
Mariah Wise, of Tippecanoe Valley High School; Annette Lamb, of Wawasee High School; and Curtis Rhodes, Warsaw Community High School, received Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. Their full tuition, required fees and a special allocation of up to $700 per year for books and equipment will be paid for four years at any accredited Indiana public or private college.
The students are chosen by a Kosciusko County Foundation selection committee that uses a "blind" process - the students' names and identifying information are removed before their applications are reviewed by the committee. Students are judged on the basis of their academic performance, extracurricular involvement, commitment to community service, references and essay responses.
Mariah Wise is the daughter of Mark and Deborah Wise. She ranks in the top 5 percent of her graduating class and plans to attend Purdue University to study agriculture education.
Annette Lamb, daughter of Bruce and Beth Lamb, also plans to attend Purdue University, to study elementary education. She ranks in the top 4 percent of her class.
Curtis Rhodes, son of Alan and Kathy Rhodes, plans to attend Rose-Hulman to study computer engineering and ranks in the top 4 percent of his class.
All three students are members of National Honor Society and are involved in a variety of school and community activities.
