2018 Graduation Rates Show Modest ImprovementIndiana Department of Education on Wednesday released the 2018 state graduation rate and the figures for local school corporations exceed the state’s.

In 2018, Indiana’s waiver graduation rate was 88.1 percent, and the non-waiver rate was 80.78 percent. In 2017, the waiver graduation rate was 87.19 percent with a non-waiver graduation rate of 80.10 percent, according to an IDOE news release.

Locally, the only public school corporation with graduations rate below the state’s for 2018 was Whitko Community Schools.

The state waiver graduation rates for public schools were 92.23 percent for Wawasee School Corp.; 92.31 percent for Warsaw Community Schools; 95.92 percent for Tippecanoe Valley School Corp.; 83.93 percent for Whitko Community Schools; 98.51 percent for Triton School Corp.; and 95.97 percent for Manchester Community Schools.

For Lakeland Christian Academy, a local non-public school, the state waiver graduation rate was 87.88 percent, below the state’s by 0.22 percent.

The state non-waiver graduation rates locally were 84.47 percent for Wawasee; 84.23 percent for Warsaw; 87.76 percent for Tippecanoe Valley; 79.46 percent for Whitko; 97.01 percent for Triton; and 91.13 percent for Manchester Community Schools.

For Lakeland Christian Academy, the state non-waiver graduation rate was 81.82 percent, more than 1 percent over the state’s.

“With the increase to Indiana’s graduation rate, it is evident our schools are committed to the academic success of our students,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction. “While there is still work to be done, we will continue to partner with local districts to ensure every student graduates prepared for life beyond high school.”

Due to differences between federal and state accountability equations and standards, IDOE also released 2018 federal graduation rates. In 2018, Indiana’s federal graduation rate was 87.23 percent, and the federal non-waiver rate was 79.97 percent. With the previous exclusion of the general diploma due to the Every Student Success Act, Indiana’s 2018 federal graduation rate is not comparable to prior years, the release states.
