Timothy Wielgot, of Cub Scout Pack 3819, earned a pizza party for his Pack at Sacred Heart Church of Warsaw.
One of the many activities at the Lincolnway Day Camp last June was to release helium-filled balloons with the Scout's name attached and see if anyone found them when they landed.
The 2010 Day Camp theme had to do with space exploration, so 230 balloons were released from Rising Arrow Campgrounds by the Cub Scouts. Only two responses were received and both were from Ohio.
In July, a note was received from a family that found a balloon with Nate Tennant's name. Tennant attends Syracuse Pack 3828. The family lived in Ada, Ohio, about 125 miles from Warsaw.
Then in August, Matt and Marie Bosworth from Arlington, Ohio, (136 miles away) found one with Wielgot's name attached.
The Day Camp Staff decided to wait until fall to see if any others would turn up during fall yard clean ups, but no more were received.
Lincolnway District Cub Scout Day Camp is held each summer during the third week of June. It is one of the largest attended Day Camps in northern Indiana averaging between 230 and 260 campers each year. Not only is it a fun adventure for the Cub Scouts, but with most of the activities they earn advancement points for their next Cub Scout rank.
Day Camp promotion presentations are given during January and February at the Pack's Pinewood Derby or their annual Blue/Gold Banquet.Pack Leaders should contact Richard McCleary (Day Camp director) or Teresa Rhoades (Day Camp program chairman) at the January District Roundtable Meeting or through the Day Camp Website at to schedule a presentation.
