COLUMBIA CITY - Jeffrey R. Zoll, 40, of Warsaw, was sentenced Monday in Whitley Circuit Court to 20 years in prison for armed robbery and resisting law enforcement.

Zoll pleaded guilty to the Class B and Class D felonies last month before Whitley Circuit Court Judge James Heuer.

For the charge of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, Heuer sentenced Zoll to 10 years in prison, plus 10 years for aggravating circumstances. Zoll also was sentenced to three years in prison for resisting law enforcement. The two terms were ordered served concurrently.

Zoll previously pleaded guilty to the April 18 robbery of the South Whitley branch of First Federal Savings Bank of Wabash. After robbing the bank at gunpoint, Zoll led police on a high-speed chase through three counties.

Two bank tellers testified Monday prior to Heuer handing down sentencing and told the court that Zoll's actions changed their lives forever.

Public defender Brad Voelz, of Warsaw, told the court that his client has been a law-abiding citizen for 20 years after serving prison time for an armed bank robbery in the 1970s.

Zoll is scheduled to appear in Kosciusko Circuit Court at 9:30 a.m. Friday for a pretrial hearing on a charges resulting from a January robbery of the Leesburg branch of Farmers State Bank. Tom Earhart of the Reed & Earhart firm in Warsaw is Zoll's attorney in the Kosciusko County case.
