Posted

Joel P. Fry, 20, of 70600 CR 33, Syracuse, died Monday from injuries suffered in a fall Saturday.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's report, Fry, Mike Roe, Chris Meyers and Wayne Miller were at the Wayne Miller and Anglia Atteberry home, North CR 775E, Syracuse, Saturday.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the group shared a marijuana cigarette and had at least one beer each, Roe, 20, CR 31, Syracuse, told officers, according to the police report. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the men were in a barn swinging from an old rope that was attached to a hay cart in the top of the barn.

Fry was swinging on the rope when the rope broke and Fry fell to the cement floor, landing on an area where two uneven concrete floors come together. As soon as Fry fell, the report indicates 911 was called and the Syracuse Emergency Medical Service transported him to Goshen General Hospital. He was later transferred to Elkhart General Hospital, where he died.

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was notified Monday about the accident and is investigating the death.

Fry was born in Bedford to Kevin and Susan Robinson Fry. An area resident since 1986, he was a 1999 Fairfield High School graduate and a Ball State University student.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Goshen Christian Church.

Calling is in Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
