Seat belts allowed two men to escape serious injury Friday morning south of Warsaw in a rollover crash. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and emergency personnel responded Friday morning to the area of CR 300S, east of County Farm Road, after receiving a 9:37 a.m. 9-1-1 call of a rollover crash. Officers arrived and located a black 2010 Chevy that had rolled left off the roadway and was in a creek area. Deputy Chris Francis stated the driver, Austin Howard, 19, of 6875 S. County Farm Road, Warsaw, had told police he was eastbound on CR 300S when bent over to his car stereo and the vehicle then left the roadway. Howard's vehicle struck a guard rail and an REMC utility pole guide wire before going airborne near the creek. Howard was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for serious injuries to his chest area. A passenger in Howard's vehicle, Lantz Garrett, 20, of 712 Hillside Drive, Warsaw, also was transported to KCH by Multi-Township EMS with serious injuries to his head. Francis credited the correct use of seat belts by both Howard and Garrett from preventing possible critical or fatal injuries from the crash.
