For 2002, the Kosciusko County Commissioners presented a budget of $4,856,320 to the Kosciusko County Council Tuesday.
The budget includes salaries - which will not be approved until Thursday's meeting - but also includes a request for two new positions: Geographical Imaging System technician and a human resources secretary.
Council president Jim Tranter said the county wants to go to central purchasing of supplies, furnitures and fixtures for all county offices. He said county administrator Ron Robinson wants to head the central purchasing, but needs an assistant to do that. If central purchasing saves money as they think it will, Tranter said, it'll become its own wing under the human resource department, Tranter said.
"... But we've got to crawl before we walk," he said. Central purchasing could mean "real savings" for the county, he said.
The position and the county commissioners' budget were approved, including the GIS technician position. Half of the salary and benefits of the GIS technician will be paid for by the city of Warsaw.
The 2001 commissioners' budget is $4,453,098.
The county cumulative capital development fund also was approved at $6,457,000 and the cumulative jail fund was approved at $1,697,012.
County commissioners are president Brad Jackson, Avis Gunter and Ron Truex. County councilmen are president Jim Tranter, vice president Brad Tandy, Harold Jones, Tom Anglin, John Kinsey, Larry Teghtmeyer and Maurice Beer.
