A Nappanee teenager was airlifted by helicopter to a Fort Wayne Hospital Tuesday after a two-vehicle accident in Elkhart County.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, a 2012 Chevy pickup - driven by Timothy Neely, 69, Osceola - was traveling west on CR 34, east of CR 31. A 2006 Pontiac passenger car - driven by Christina Borkholder, 35, Nappanee - was traveling west on CR 34, east of CR 31, directly in front of the Chevy. The Pontiac was slowing to stop and turn left onto CR 31, but the Chevy was following too closely and rear-ended the Pontiac.
The accident occurred at about 3:26 p.m. Tuesday.
Treva Yoder, 76, Goshen, a front-right passenger in the Pontiac, was transported to a hospital for complaints of pain.
Natalie Yoder, 15, Nappanee, a rear-center passenger in the Pontiac, was unconscious and airlifted by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, the news release states.
The report also indicates neither Borkholder or Yoder were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Chevy sustained heavy front-end damage, while the Pontiac sustained heavy rear-end damage.
The crash is being investigated by the Elkhart County Crash Investigation Team.
