2 Hurt In Friday Night CollisionTwo men were injured in a collision Friday night on U.S. 30, with one taken by helicopter to a hospital.

Charles C. Gross, 39, Rolling Prairie, had a fracture to the lower arm and possible other injuries. He was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne because of his assumed injuries, according to a Warsaw Police Department accident report.

Ward A. Roth, 57, Youngstown, Ohio, complained of pain to his right shoulder and had a bump on his head.

Roth was read the implied consent and taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for a voluntary blood draw before he was treated for his injuries.

The accident happened at 11:13 p.m. Friday at the intersection of U.S. 30 and North CR 150W, Warsaw.

Gross told an officer that he was driving his black 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 east on U.S. 30, approaching the intersection of North CR 150W, with a green light showing in his direction of travel. He said he leaned over to adjust the defrost on his pickup and had taken his eyes off of the road. When he looked up, he had no time to react before driving into the rear of Roth’s semi trailer.

Roth said he was waiting on the traffic light to turn green at the intersection of U.S. 30 and North CR 150W in his white 2000 Volvo semi tractor. When the light turned green, he began to move east on U.S. 30 when he was hit from behind by the pickup.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to $25,000, according to the WPD report.
