Two people were injured Monday night when two semi tractor/trailers collided at Pierceton.
Darrell E. Sanders Jr., 46, of Joplin, Mo., complained of back pain after the 11:25 p.m. accident on U.S. 30 at Mill Street.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Sanders was eastbound on U.S. 30, a short distance past the intersection of Ind. 13, when he started coughing. Sanders told police he remembers coughing, then being in the ditch, but he has no recollection of the accident.
Prior to his rig going into the ditch, Sanders' semi tractor/trailer collided with a semi tractor/trailer driven by Charles A. Cereghin, 41, of New Bavaria, Ohio.
Cereghin's rig ended up on its side across the westbound lanes of U.S. 30. Cereghin told police he also was eastbound on U.S. 30 and was traveling behind Sanders' rig at about 30 mph when he started to pass Sanders' vehicle.
Sanders apparently swerved to the right, then back to the left, and Cereghin said he steered to the left to avoid the collision, but Sanders' rig still swerved left and made contact with Cereghin's vehicle. Cereghin's semi tractor/trailer then overturned.
Also injured in the accident was a passenger in Cereghin's rig, Susan I. Cereghin, 46, of New Bavaria. She suffered an abrasion to her leg. Both of those injured in the accident were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, for treatment.
