A fatal accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 19 Friday afternoon, killing two Wisconsin residents.
Paul C. Cottle, 71, St. Charles, Mich., driver of a 2000 Volvo semi tractor, was stopped at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 19 in the eastbound lane Friday at 12:56 p.m.
Shelly M. Johnson, 31, Milton, Wis., driving a 2000 Ford mini-van, failed to see Cottle's vehicle stopped at the intersection and struck Cottle's trailer.
The impact killed Johnson and her husband, K. G. Johnson, 42, Milton, Wisc., who was a passenger in the front seat.
Both vehicles were in the driving lane headed eastbound on U.S. 30. All were reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The Johnson's son, Ian Johnson, 13, Milton, Wis., was a backseat passenger in the car. He suffered cuts to his face and hands and was taken to Kosciusko County Community Hospital where he was treated and released to his grandparents, of Fort Wayne.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Bourbon Police Department, Etna Green Fire Department, Etna Green EMS, Kosciusko County Coroner's Office and the Kosciusko County Fact Team.
