CROMWELL – Kosciusko County officials are investigating the death of an 18-year-old male discovered by his mother Friday at their residence. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies, along with Syracuse EMS and fire personnel, responded Friday at approximately 12:07 p.m. to 9672 E. Excalibur Place, Cromwell, in regards to a male subject found unconscious by his mother. Syracuse EMS and fire emergency responders arrived and attempted to resuscitate the male victim, but he was subsequently pronounced dead by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Shawn Michael Leins, 18, Cromwell.Leins’ mother went to wake her son up Friday and discovered him unconscious and not breathing. Kosciusko County Central Communication dispatchers also provided Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation instruction over the 911 line in attempt to resuscitate until emergency personnel could arrive. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, along with KCSD, are currently investigating the incident but are awaiting completed toxicology results along with the findings of a Fort Wayne autopsy before making a determination as to the cause of death. KCSD Detective Lt. Todd Sautter stated that at this time there was no reason to suspect foul play was involved in the death of Leins. Kosciusko County Deputy Coroner Michael Wilson stated that it might be next week before conclusive results from the autopsy and lab toxicology are made available to their office.
