15-Year-Old Male Accidentally Shot; 3 ChargedA 15-year-old male from Warsaw is in critical condition after an accidental shooting Sunday, but three others were charged by police because of their actions after the incident.
As a result of the investigation, according to a news release, Warsaw police initially charged 22-year-old Amika Bolen, Warsaw, with level 5 felony criminal recklessness for shooting a firearm in a dwelling. She is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $10,250 surety bond. Official charges will be filed by the prosecuting attorney’s office later this week.
Police also charged 21-year-old Dylan Lawson, Warsaw, with level 6 felony obstruction of justice, and charged 24-year-old Sasha Bolen, Warsaw, with misdemeanor false informing. Both were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail.
Just before 4 p.m. Sunday, emergency responders were called to Shamrock Mobile Home Park on the north side of Warsaw for a juvenile that had been shot. Upon arrival, police located a 15-year-old Warsaw male inside the mobile home with a gunshot wound to the neck. The teen was rushed to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in critical condition.
Warsaw police believe the shooting to be accidental; however, their investigation was hampered by an attempt to dispose of the handgun, and also by witnesses giving police false information, the release states.
The initial investigation indicates that multiple people were inside the mobile home and a 9mm handgun was being handled by Amika Bolen when the handgun discharged. After the shooting, Dylan Lawson took the handgun and threw it in the woods near the mobile home park before police arrived. Police recovered the handgun.
Also during the initial investigation, the homeowner, and relative of the victim, Sasha Bolen, intentionally gave police the wrong information on who was handling the handgun when it discharged, the release states.
