A Mentone man involved in a shooting incident in January was sentenced Monday in Kosciusko Superior Court to 14 years in prison.

Danny Lee Hale, 52, of 11620 W. CR 600S, Mentone, will serve 10 years for burglary of a residence while armed with a dangerous weapon and four years for intimidation in the Indiana Department of Corrections. The sentences will be served consecutively, and the last six months of the sentence will be suspended for probation. As part of his sentence, Hale is to consume no alcoholic beverages. Hale receives credit for time served and good time credit totaling 400 days.

Kosciusko Superior Court Judge Duane Huffer handed down the sentence Monday after Hale pleaded guilty to the charges in June.

On Jan. 5, Hale went to the home of his ex-girlfriend's mother and threatened his ex-girlfriend, who had a restraining order against him.

According to witnesses, Hale had been drinking when he entered the house and brandished the shotgun. Hale threatened three adults and two children inside the house before leaving.

Mentone Town Marshal Jim Eads was responding to a report that Hale threatened a woman at 512 W. Jackson St. when he encountered Hale driving a pickup about a block from the scene.

Eads tried to talk with Hale, who refused to obey orders to drop a shotgun. When Hale pointed the gun at the officer, Eads fired.

Hale spent several days in Parkview Hospital following the shooting and was taken into the custody of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department upon his release.
