A middle school student faces charges of possession of marijuana and intimidation after allegedly having a marijuana cigarette at school and making a threat toward another student.
Edgewood Middle School principal Joella Smyth contacted Warsaw police Thursday afternoon to inform them that Ira Dean Gaston, 13, of 422 S. Union St., Warsaw, was allegedly in possession of marijuana.
Gaston was detained by Smyth after Smyth received information that he might have marijuana on school property. School officials reportedly found Gaston to have two packs of cigarettes, with one containing what is believed to be a marijuana cigarette, two lighters and a small scale.
Gaston's mother came to the school to take him into her custody and Gaston then, in front of police and school personnel, reportedly named another student whom he said he would beat with a baseball bat. He also said he would kill the youth.
Preliminary charges will be forwarded to the probation department for Gaston to be dealt with through juvenile court.
