WCS Chooses Building Plan

After more than two dozen public meetings in about a year, the Warsaw School Board approved Option A Monday for its building plan, with the possibility of modifications.Kovert Hawkins, Jeffersonville, is the architectural firm chosen for the project.Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth presented the resolution stating that the school board establishes Option A as meeting the needs of the corporation. Dan Robinson, board vice president, said during the bulk of the nine community meetings on the three possible options, the four steps of Option A were presented in a certain order. Haworth, Robinson said, is considering shuffling steps in the option. The approved resolution encompasses all of the option.

Police Warn Of Construction Site Thefts

Due to a number of thefts in northern counties, the Warsaw Police Department is urging local construction businesses to be extra cautious. "Businesses should take precautions to ensure equipment won't be tampered with," said Warsaw Det.Steve Adang. A rash of construction site thefts in St.Joseph, LaPorte and Elkhart counties has prompted the Warsaw Police Department to encourage local businesses to take extra steps to secure heavy equipment. According to Adang, many pieces of heavy equipment such as backhoes, attachments, earth movers and other machinery have been stolen from construction sites.In some cases, the equipment has been stolen along with its transport trailers and other equipment. "We want (local business) to be aware that quite a bit of heavy duty equipment and attachments have been stolen," said Adang. No local thefts related to the incidents in other counties have been reported in Kosciusko County.

Project Independence Clients Honored By CCS Directors

Brandy Holle is a lab technician at Parkview North in Fort Wayne; Terry Smith works at Kosciusko Community Hospital in insurance verification; Sarah Knight is a licensed practical nurse; and Angela Friend is a registered nurse who has her eye on becoming a nurse practitioner.Anita Mikel has secured an associates in business degree and is working toward a marketing degree. All five are Ivy Tech graduates. They juggled jobs, kids and classes for the last few years to reach their current goals. This balancing act was strengthened with support from Combined Community Service's Project Independence program. The young women, recognized for their accomplishments by CCS staff and board members Wednesday, praised the program and the help they received during trying times. "I thank God for Project Independence," Smith said."I'm probably CCS's veteran, I've gone to them since 1997.
