Manchester Wins Semi-State, Heads To First Ever State Finals

It was grueling, it was physical. At times, it was downright exhausting. But after perhaps the toughest 36 minutes the team had ever played, the Manchester Squires were able to topple Gary 21st Century 53-50 in Saturday’s semi-state title game at Michigan City to advance to the first state finals in program history.

Looking to win the first semi-state in school history, the Manchester boys basketball team got off to the right start on Saturday afternoon, defeating Jimtown 56-55. The Squires led for a majority of the game before the Jimmies stole the lead late, but it was a three pointer by Ethan Hendrix in the final 10 seconds of the game that iced it for good.

Manchester Looking To Win First Ever Semi-State Title

It’s been a whirlwind of a March for the Manchester boys basketball team, as the Squires have spent the last few weeks rewriting history. First, the team captured its first sectional title in 30 years. A week later, it was the team’s first regional championship in 31. Now, the Squires are two wins away from capturing their first ever semi-state title and advancing to where no Manchester team ever has: the state finals.

Furious Warsaw Comeback Falls Short In Double OT

At the half, it seemed as if it was going to be a long night for the Warsaw boys basketball team. Their opponent, South Bend Riley, was dominating every facet of the game. But in typical Tiger fashion, Warsaw battled through the adversity and flipped the script in the second half. Playing well enough to force overtime twice, Warsaw came extremely close to finishing up the comeback and heading to semi-state, but instead, it was the Wildcats who made the biggest plays of the game late in a 77-71 win.

Triton Uses Three Point Barrage To Cruise To Regional Title

Having the opportunity to host 1A Regional 26 at the Trojan Trench on Saturday afternoon, the Triton boys basketball team made the most of it. Facing off against Lakewood Park Christian, the Trojans took the lead early on and never surrendered it, cruising to a 63-40 victory to advance to next week’s semi-state round.

Lancers Dominate Carolina In NAIA Tournament Opener

Hosting the first two rounds of the NAIA Tournament, the Grace mens’ basketball team wasted no time asserting their dominance on their home floor Friday night, getting out to an early lead and growing it throughout the game to defeat Carolina 121-69.

Tigers Take On Riley In Second Straight Regional Title Game

The Warsaw boys basketball team enters the regional championship round of the state tournament for the second straight year after snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in last week’s sectional championship game. With three seconds left in the game and the team down by three, it looked as if the Tigers’ season may be over.

Triton Plays Host To Regional Against Lakewood Park Christian

Since head coach Jason Groves took over at the end of the 2004-05 season, the Triton boys basketball team has had plenty of success. State champions in 2008. Three more appearances in 2009, 2011 and 2013. That 2013 season was the last time the Trojans won a regional, a statistic they’d like to update when they take on Lakewood Park Christian this weekend.

Manchester Looks To Continue Season Against Tipton

After years of early playoff exits, the Manchester boys basketball team finally broke through last weekend, winning its first sectional championship since the 1994-95 season. Now, the Squires turn their attention to the regional round, where they will look to capture the first regional title since 1993-1994.
