Anders, Gephart Carry Triton To Title

PLYMOUTH - The two burly boys with facial hair, both sporting sleeveless Triton wrestling T-shirts, doused Curt Kreft with a Gatorade shower. The routine is far from original, but then again, how often is a coach clad in a blue dress shirt with a yellow tie and gray dress slacks doused on a humid night as mosquitoes swarm above his head? This wasn't a football coach wearing a sweat shirt. Kreft seemed oblivious to being soaked in business attire with bugs dive-bombing at him. What he was not oblivious to was fretting over premature celebrations. "You don't even know if we won yet," said Kreft, Triton's sixth-year boys track and field coach. Moments later assistant coach Jason Hunter lined up Triton's track and field athletes for a sectional champion picture and beckoned Kreft to join in. "We're not even sure if we've won yet," Kreft said.

Practices Interesting For Stookey

Dave Stookey has two talented cross country teams. And maybe one day he will see them all together. "I was commenting to my assistant the other day that since practice started, we haven't had all of either one of our teams there on any one day because of work, vacations or something," Stookey said."We don't seem to get it all together.Things just haven't jelled yet.We have some promising young kids, and we are hoping things will come together." For the boys, one of Stookey's top runners, Dusty Lytle, didn't come out for the team this year, another veteran moved to Florida, and he lost a talented freshman to a broken leg suffered during a skiing accident. For the girls, Katie McCauley suffered an injury in the spring during track season and is slow to recover.

War'Shaw' Boys Build Win From Clay

NAPPANEE - Ever the mathematician, the right answer Friday for Warsaw boys basketball coach Al Rhodes came from the equation Shaw + Clay2. In a Northern Lakes Conference matchup at NorthWood, Warsaw got 26 points from Greg Clay, 22 from Jared Shaw and 17 more from Chris Clay. The senior trio's efforts added up to an 84-71 Tiger win. Warsaw is now 14-1 overall and 5-0 in the NLC, while the host Panthers fall to 6-6 and 2-3. In what has become a trend the last couple weeks, the 10th-ranked Tigers used a huge fourth quarter to seperate themselves from the opposition. Friday night when Warsaw outscored NorthWood 28-17 in the final frame, that perfomance came at the charity stripe, where the Tigers were an astounding 18 of 19.For the game Warsaw was 27 of 32 at the line. The host Panthers started last night's contest in a dead sprint, hitting 8 of 10 shots in the first quarter, including 3 of 4 from the arc.
