2006 Will Be An Intriguing Election Year

The 2006 election should be quite interesting. The Democrats are chomping at the bit. They believe - and they may be right - that W has made the Republicans vulnerable. W's popularity is falling.Support for the war in Iraq is dwindling and the economy, while still strong, is being threatened by rising gas prices. There is an outfit in Washington, D.C.called Democracy Corps. It boasts members such as notable liberal political strategists as James Carville, Stanley Greenberg, Karl Angle and Robert Shrum. Basically, the group conducts surveys to get a feel for what Americans are thinking. They're looking for ideas and issues that they can use to get more Democrats elected.

Manchester Waits On County To Act On LifeMed Proposal

NORTH MANCHESTER - Until the Wabash County Council takes action, the North Manchester Town Council said Wednesday it was forced to table LifeMed Medical Transport Services' pleas for subsidization. The ambulance service needs $220,000 for the next 45 months to provide the current service, said LifeMed president Christopher Brown. That amount pays for one 24-hour ambulance and the two paramedics required on each vehicle, along with office employees and building rent, he said.LifeMed also runs a 12-hour ambulance with its two paramedics. Without the county deciding, "it's putting us in limbo," said town council president Don Rinearson. LifeMed used its line of credit to pay for the first quarter of 2001 before receiving money. This year is shaping up the same, Brown said. "So I am about out," Brown said to the council. Last year, Wabash County sent LifeMed $125,000 of the requested $200,000.This year though, no money has been handed over yet, he said.

TWF Announces Appointment Of Five New Board Members

Warsaw's Driver Education Program To Continue

Warsaw's driver education program will continue for at least another year, according to a decision made Wednesday by the board of directors. E-mails and fliers flew around the Warsaw area earlier this month and in late August, warning parents that because of dire financial problems and lack of cooperation from Warsaw Community Schools, the Warsaw Community Driver Education Co-Op Inc.would have to shut down. That rumor was incorrect and premature. In a meeting Wednesday with WCS superintendent Dr.David McGuire, the WCDEC board agreed to continue operations for at least another year. The co-op does have financial problems, though, and the board members and McGuire hope they can work out the details during this next year.
