With no conference to call home during its transition season away from the Three Rivers Conference and into the new conference it will be a founding member of, the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team was able to put together quite the schedule for the 2023-24 season. The Vikings took on teams from all over the half of the state this winter, from Fort Wayne South Side to Wheeler. Lebanon to South Bend Washington. More times than not, Valley was able to answer the call, battling through the grueling, unorthodox schedule to head into the playoffs with a 15-8 record.

Where There's A Willy, There's A Will

NAPPANEE -ÊWilly Will, NorthWood's No.9, has been wreaking havoc on opponents all year. When he is not catching one of Mike Blosser's passes to gain yardage for the Panthers, Will is stopping opponents dead in their tracks at the strong safety position. As one of just two Panthers who plays both offense and defense on a regular basis, Will causes many of NorthWood's opponents to scratch their heads and wonder how to avoid him. "We're sure glad he's on our side," said NorthWood football coach Rich Dodson. "NorthWood has a great wide receiver in Willy Will," said Lakeland coach Rex Bowser."I am really impressed with him." NorthWood (9-2), ranked No.5 in the final class 3A poll, hosts 6-5 Lakeland at 7:30 p.m.Friday in a sectional championship game. Will started playing football in fifth grade when he and as many as nine other current NorthWood players made the trek to Warsaw to play in a pee-wee league. Through the years, Will has played several positions.

Tigers Pierce Archers, Win Regional

FORT WAYNE - In the end, all the talk of moving the Fort Wayne South Side 4A Regional to a bigger gym in Fort Wayne was just that, talk. The reason for the talk, a gym that some from Warsaw felt that at 2,100 capacity was too small for a 4A regional, still had empty seats. And Warsaw, making the road trip, marched into Fort Wayne South Side and upset the No.10 Archers 45-44 in their house in Tuesday's boys basketball regional. The Tigers beat a South Side team that played eight players, all seniors. The Archers end the season 20-4, while 19-4 Warsaw survives and advances. The Tigers play No.4 Merrillville (21-2) in Saturday's Lafayette Semistate.Merrillville moved on with a 73-56 Tuesday win over Munster (18-5) in the Merrillville 4A Regional.
