In a tightly contested game between the Whitko and Wabash softball teams on Wednesday, neither side was able to find much separation. Despite a fantastic outing by starting pitcher Cassidy Skinner (20 strikeouts), Wabash was able to come away with a 4-3 victory in eleven innings.

Physical Minutemen Outlast Warriors

DUNLAP - Jerry Davis is a quick learner. Two-thirds of the way into his first season Davis understands his new conference pretty well.He knows that you have to play physical in the Northern Lakes Conference. Last night his Wawasee Warriors couldn't withstand the physical pressure of the Concord Minutemen, losing 65-56. "The difference in the ball game was their physicalness under the boards and inside," he said."It made it very difficult for us to post up inside, and once we did, to do anything positive. "They did an excellent job of working the boards and going to the boards hard.We didn't block out the way that I would have liked. As physical as the NLC is, you have to be physical back or you're gonna be in trouble." The Warriors were down by 14 entering the fourth quarter, then finally started to make a run.

Lance Ropte Resigns As Warsaw Airport Manager

Lance Ropte, manager of the Warsaw Municipal Airport for the past seven years, has submitted his resignation from the position, effective Saturday. "I'm relocating back to Iowa and we're going to buy the family farm," Ropte said."It's been in the family since 1881 and I've been thinking about this since my father passed away last year. We've been looking at going back since then.I'm moving back into the home I grew up in." He added that had it not been for a deployment to Hungary with his Michigan Air National Guard unit, he would already have returned to Iowa. "I stayed because I felt obligated to the Michigan Air National Guard and its deployment to Hungary," he said. He will be returning to the private sector workforce in addition to managing the family farm, Ropte said.He will oversee the safety program for a national trucking firm.

Young Warriors See Season End

That's what made the difference in Wednesday night's Columbia City Regional girls basketball game between Wawasee and Columbia City. The experienced Eagles weathered the lights going out and a Warrior run to finish with a 55-48 victory and a spot in the Peru Semistate. As the game started, it looked as if the Warriors would go down hard.Columbia City scored the first eight points and held Wawasee scoreless for the first three minutes of play. By the end of the first frame, Columbia City held a 13-6 lead. All six Wawasee points came from free throws, five from Shanna Zolman and one from Jessica Leach. The Warriors were 0-of-12 shooting from the field in the first quarter. In fact, the Warriors did not hit a basket from the field until the 3:15 mark in the second stanza when Shanna Zolman hit a jumper to make the score 24-10 in Columbia City's favor. That shot sparked a 8-0 Wawasee run that brought Wawasee to within eight, 24-16.

'South Pacific' Makes A Beautiful Destination

As this year's Wagon Wheel Theatre summer season continues, there's one thought that keeps coming back to me. Regardless of the play, this year's acting company is truly an amazing professional bunch. And when you put this mesmerizing troupe into a truly American play such as "South Pacific," throw in some detailed scenery, put the actors in the appropriate garb and let director Roy Hine have his way with it - sit back and prepare yourself for a treat. Set on two islands in the Pacific during World War II, the story builds around two primary relationships.First, there's the romantic relationship between Navy nurse Ensign Nellie Forbush (Jennifer Dow) from Little Rock, Ark., and the older French planter, Emile de Becque (Robert Joseph Miller).A second love pairing involves Lt.Joseph Cable (Jeremy D.Cohen) and young native girl Liat (Vivian Chiu).

Lady Tiger Seniors Looking To End Careers On Top

Warsaw’s four seniors: Brooke Winchester, Abbey Peterson, Braylie Chastain and Leila Knepp have a luxury that very few athletes playing in their final season do. They know exactly when their last game is. Whether they win or lose in Saturday’s state championship game, it will be the last time they put on the Lady Tiger uniform.
