Reporter becomes part of story

Rappel down a four-story building? Me? Yeah, I did it Sunday when Dynamik Adventures came to town. And now I'd do it again in a heartbeat. It's exciting, fun and scary at first. But once you've done it a few times, it's not that big a deal.I rappelled down the building at 122 S.Buffalo St., Warsaw, about five or six times.I ascended it only one time as it is very tiring. I participated in the full class Eric Bishop and Brant Upchurch, partners of Dynamik Adventures, Lafayette, offered, along with Jason Slone (no relation), Mike Thurston, Staci Trolin and Phillip Swarts.Dynamik Adventures came to Warsaw after former Warsaw City Planner Jeff Noffsinger took one of their classes in Attica and thought it would be great to bring them to town. The building used is co-owned by Noffsinger.

Syracuse Workers To Be Surveyed About PERF

SYRACUSE - Employees of the town of Syracuse will soon receive a survey of three questions at the request of the Syracuse Town Council. Town manager Matt Vigneault answered the council's questions concerning the public employee retirement fund (PERF) Tuesday evening at the monthly town council meeting. PERF is a retirement program the council is considering implementing for its employees. The downside of PERF is that a person must be in the program for 10 years before being able to receive any of the benefits from it.The council was concerned for its older employees, believing that they may not benefit from the plan. With the intent to learn how the employees themselves feel about the program, Vigneault will prepare a survey. The survey will ask what the employees think about the program, their age and how long they have worked for the town of Syracuse.

City Hears Feedback About Curb Project On Lilac, Brubaker

Residents of Lilac Lane and Brubaker Street filled the Warsaw city council chambers Monday, some questioning and complaining about changes to the streets, others making complimentary remarks. Don Kollman asked who put the curbs and gutters in along the street and whether or not the project was planned. Public works superintendent Lacy Francis Jr.replied that the street department did the work and it had been planned for years. "It was promised by the former mayor in 1990 and '92 to put curbs and gutters in where there was none at all," Francis said. Kollman said he called Jeff Plank, who was the mayor 14 years ago, "and that's untrue. He never promised anything like that." Kollman asked why the city didn't talk to the neighbors. Francis said there were fliers about the project placed on everyone's door. Someone in the audience said those fliers were rescinded a couple of days later. Mayor Ernie Wiggins said he didn't know what promises were made.
