Comeback Not Enough For Wawasee Against Fairfield

Boys basketball season returned to the Hardwood Teepee Tuesday night as Wawasee tipped off the season for area teams by hosting rival Fairfield. Things were incredibly close for most of the game, with the Falcons extending their lead in the second half. The Warriors made a furious comeback in the final minutes, but it was too little too late as the visitors emerged with a 46-43 win.

Letters to the Editor 08-18-2005

- Eastern Time - Organ Donation - Fixing Schools - Animal Welfare - Protective Orders Eastern Time Editor, Times-Union: I agree with Gary Gerard in his news views on Saturday. If Indiana has to change time, stay with what works. If we have different time zones, what's the purpose of changing at all? Personally we should go with the Eastern Zone and include the whole state.Different counties going with different zones would only be more confusing and idiotic. What's wrong with having an extra hour of light in the summer? If we switch to central it will be dark by 3:30-4 p.m.in the fall.

The Goshen Rules: Tigers Find No Answers To Beating Redskins

MIDDLEBURY -ÊThe words "The world is a vampire" were printed on the front of the boy's black T-shirt. The back of his T-shirt read "The Smashing Pumpkins Infinite Sadness Tour." Sign Warsaw coach Andy Lewis and his tennis team up for that tour. Every year Lewis thinks this is the year Warsaw will finally beat Goshen in the regional. But every year, Goshen pulls out the win to ruin the Tigers' world and send them on the sadness tour, in this case the van ride home. This time, Goshen (17-0) beat 11-4 Warsaw 3-2 in Wednesday's first round of the Elkhart Sectional.Goshen, which has knocked Warsaw out in the last five regionals, meets Elkhart Central in tonight's championship match at Elkhart's McNaughton Park.

Tigers Finish 5-1 In NLC Dual Matches

A good showing by freshmen and sophomores helped the Tigers to a 48-26 win over the Plymouth Rockies.Warsaw wrestlers take 5-1 NLC dual record to the conference tournament at Northridge on Saturday. ÊThe mood was subdued and serious as the Tigers warmed up prior to the match, although the team members practically wore out their vocal chords cheering the junior varsity wrestlers to a 30-27 win. Warsaw coach Tony Boley was pleased with the grit shown by his underclassmen, who came through with big wins.In addition, even those who lost fought hard and did not roll over for the Rockies.Ê "The young guys not getting pinned kept Plymouth from gaining any momentum," said Boley.

Triton Girls End Season In Regional Final

CULVER -ÊCulver's gym seems to be a home away from home for the Triton Lady Trojans. And why not it's a nice, sleepy, resort town during the summer. But February can get pretty cold and unfortunately the Trojans felt the chill on Saturday night falling to Fort Wayne Canterbury 48-45 in the 2A regional final. Triton began the day in a physical contest against South Newton where it prevailed 55-33.In its second game of the day it ran into super freshman Megan King of Canterbury. The state's third leading scorer at 27.6 per game put up with some freshman hazing from the Triton student cheering block with unneeded taunts of "Ball Hog" every time she touched the ball.

Parker, Peden Are Wanted, Needed

NORTH MANCHESTER - The signs in Manchester High School's hallway say the two girls are wanted. One has a picture of 5-foot-5 senior guard Katie Parker and reads: Wanted ...Katie Parker ...For grand theft auto ...Known for driving the lane.Another has a picture of 5-6 senior guard Jodie Peden and reads: Wanted ...Jodie Peden ...For grand larceny theft ...Known to steal from opponents. To Manchester coach Jody Shewman, these two guards - known as "Park" and "Pedo" by their teammates - are the two most unheralded reasons the Squires are 20-3 and competing in Saturday's Logansport 2A Semistate. Manchester forward Megan Eckert has always gotten attention for scoring nearly 20 points per game. And recently the story line of choice has been Jessica Hicks, a 5-10 freshman who went from averaging six points per game in the regular season to 19.7 in the postseason. But it's Parker and Peden who allow Eckert and Hicks to score by getting them the ball when they're open.

Little Brother Not So Little Anymore

BOURBON - Growing up in the McIntyre house, Triton senior Troy McIntyre was always the smallest. Well, that's not the case anymore.

Are Principles And Ethics Void From Political Process?

OK, so here's the deal.Lately, I've been pretty cynical about the political process in this country.Seems like if you're principled and ethical, you have no chance.

Green Investments Bad For Government

I must give President Barack Obama credit. He actually submitted a budget to Congress. Good for him.And the fact that he has both Democrats and Republicans up in arms over it tells me he must have done something right.

Colts Fans Are Better Than The ‘Lucas Oil Boos’ Showed

Saturday was one of the days where, 20 or 30 years from now, Indiana sports fans are going to remember where they were. They will remember their initial reaction to the rumor, then the report, and then the confirmation from Andrew Luck himself that he was leaving the Colts and professional football.
