Grace’s Upset Bid Falls Short To No. 4 Indiana Tech

In the fourth quarter on Tuesday, Grace’s women’s basketball team was within four points of No. 4 Indiana Tech. But the Lady Lancers (4-1) sputtered late on the road, allowing the Warriors (3-1) to claim a 90-76 victory. Vironnica Drake was sensational on the night, a day after being named the NCCAA National Player of the Week. Drake poured in a career-high 32 points to go along with 11 rebounds and two steals.

Big Night From Viers, Defense, Puts Triton On Top Over Plymouth

Looking to bounce back after the team’s first loss of the season to South Central last Friday, the Triton Trojans used great defense and fantastic games from junior center Addyson Viers and senior guard Kinsey Atkins to pull away from the Plymouth Lady Pilgrims early and stay on top for a 51-36 victory at the Trojan Trench Thursday night. Triton is now 4-1 this winter.

Laura Virginia “Jenny” Grimes

COLUMBIA CITY — Laura Virginia “Jenny” Grimes, 95, Columbia City, passed away at 11:07 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 at her home at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home.  Born July 9, 1922, in Kenova, Wayne County, Ky., she was the daughter of Scott and Effie Burgett Hatten-Vanator. She grew up and attended schools in West Virginia before moving to Indiana. Jenny had worked at the Barbee Hotel and Playtime Products before being married to Franklin J. Grimes on April 19, 1942, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in Pierceton.  Franklin was drafted into World War II and was stationed in Ohio and then in Texas. Once in Texas, Jenny moved down to join him before he was transferred to Utah, where their oldest daughter, Carolyn, was born. Following the war, the family took a train back to Chicago and moved back to Pierceton.
