Tons Of Talent On Display At Girls Track And Field Sectionals

It’s been a long time since any team besides the Warsaw Lady Tigers has found a way to win the girls track and field sectional hosted by the aforementioned team, and this year was no different. For the 17th straight time, Warsaw defeated its opponents to take first place and advance to the next round of the state tournament.
Joining Warsaw in the regional are Concord and Northridge, which finished second and third. Two other local schools, Wawasee and Lakeland Christian, were also in attendance, finishing seventh and ninth.
Champions for Warsaw included Annabel Parker (100m hurdles, 300m hurdles), Eden Metz (1600m, 800m ), the 4 x 100m relay team of Addison Williams, Anna Stevens, Claire Walters and Camryn Burner, Burner (200m), the 4 x 400m relay team of Parker, Ella Laput, Hannah Fisher, and Metz, Leila Knepp (long jump), Cassie Jackson (discus) and Maggie Barnett (pole vault).
While the team seasons ended for both the Lady Warriors and Lady Cougars, each team was able to advance one athlete into the regional. For Wawasee, Isabel Schwartz finished second in the long jump and third in the 100m hurdles to qualify for both events. As for LCA, Samantha Bloomfield took third in the 300m hurdles to advance.
Warsaw wasn’t the only sectional site that featured local teams competing on Tuesday, as Bremen played host to four others: Tippecanoe Valley. Manchester, Whitko and Triton. No team was able to advance, as the highest finisher was the Lady ‘Cats in fifth, but a handful of athletes were able to advance to the regional.
Starting with Whitko, Emerson Harper won three different events (100m dash, 200m dash and long jump, while Gwen Howard took first in both shot put and discus. Harper and Howard were also each a part of the 4x400 relay team along with Willow Osborn and Anna Allebach finished second.
Representing the Lady Vikings, Betty Shepherd took second place in the 300m hurdles to punch her ticket to the regional. The Lady Squires will send three athletes into the next round, as Ayla Cashdollar won the 1600m run and came in second in the 3200m. Beating her out was teammate Kadence Fox, who also took home a sectional title. Rounding things out was Peyton Ream, who finished third in the 100m hurdles.

While the Lady Trojans didn’t have any athletes qualify in the track events, two Triton athletes were able to advance due to their performances in the field. Rilee Bemish and Katie Reichard finished in third place in the pole vault and long jump to make it to next week’s competition.
The Lady Tigers as well as all qualifying athletes will compete at the Warsaw regional on Tuesday.
