GOSHEN – Sprouts Kids Club, a free program offered by the Goshen Farmers Market, encourages healthy food choices by providing kids with tokens to spend on produce from local farmers. Starting this month, kids can participate in the program every Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. The program runs through October.
“Entering its seventh season, the Sprouts Kids Club continues to cultivate a vital connection between our community, local food and the dedicated farmers who grow it,” said Jo Ellen Davis, Goshen Farmers Market manager. “We're thrilled to see many of our youth growing up participating in this program and deepening their understanding of where their food comes from."
Goshen Health, a program partner since 2021, offers an educational activity on the second Tuesday each month to help kids learn about nutrition while earning an additional token to spend at the market. These efforts help address both obesity and food access, which were identified as key health concerns in a recent Community Health Needs Assessment, according to the release from Goshen Health.
"What a great program to encourage children to try new fruits and vegetables and create healthy habits,” said Randy Christophel, Goshen Health president and chief executive officer. “Supporting this program sends a positive message about the importance of healthy eating, recognizing that easy access to fruits and vegetables contributes to good health.”
