Local High School Sports Recaps For February 8

Girls Basketball
Whitko vs. Bluffton
For the first time in school history, the Whitko girls basketball team took home a sectional championship Saturday night, defeating host school Bluffton 68-60. The Lady ‘Cats are now 20-4 this season.
Reese Stonebreaker led the way with 19 points, while her sister Jayma poured in 16. Ally Brown scored 13 while Adriyanna Phillips added 10.
Whitko will take on Bremen next Saturday in a regional game at Caston.
Tippecanoe Valley vs. Fairfield
Tippecanoe Valley’s season came to an end Friday night at the hands of Fairfield in the semifinal round of its 3A Sectional, falling 60-51. The Lady Vikings end the season with a 13-11 record.
No statistics were available for the game. Valley will return next season.
Wawasee vs. Columbia City
Wawasee fell 49-23 to eventual champion Columbia City in the semifinal round of their 3A Sectional on Friday night. The Lady Warriors end the season with a 13-10 record.
Ava Couture had a team-high eight points. Mackenzie Hackleman had seven.
Wawasee will return next season.
Manchester vs. Lewis Cass
Manchester fell 37-26 to eventual champion Lewis Cass in the semifinal round of their 2A Sectional Friday night. The Lady Squires end the year with a 9-14 record.
Molly Schannep and Hadley West each had 10 points in the loss. West also added six rebounds.
Manchester will return next season.
Triton vs. Elkhart Christian
Triton’s season came to an end at the hands of eventual champion Elkhart Christian in the semifinal round of their 1A Sectional Friday night, falling 51-33. The Lady Trojans end the campaign with a 3-23 record.
Gracie Riffle had 10 points while Nadia Stetler and Sierra Hawley each had six.
Triton will return next season.
Boys Basketball
Caston at Triton
Triton picked up a win over Caston Saturday afternoon, defeating the Comets 46-28 at home. The Trojans are now 14-3 this winter, 7-0 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.
Dante Workman led the team with 17 points. Gage Riffle and Brady Wood each had six.
Triton is at Trinity Tuesday night.
Boys Wrestling
Warsaw at Regional
The Tiger Wrestling team finished in 5th place at the IHSAA Regional at Rochester on Saturday.
Warsaw had 9 wrestlers compete and had 6 advance to next week’s Semi State round.
The Tigers were led by Kameron Kauffman’s championship effort at the 285 pound weight class.
Kauffman advanced to the finals after a first round pin and a tech fall in the semifinals. In the championship match, he scored a late takedown to earn a 4-1 decision.
Three Tigers earned third place finishes with 2-1 records.
Gabe Veit was a winner by pin in round one, then picked up an 8-4 decision in the placement round at 126 pounds.
At 144 pounds, Leo Castro avenged a loss from early in the season with a gritty finish in the first round to win 11-7. In his placement match, he racked up huge points to win by tech fall.
At 165 pounds, Danny Moon was able to grind away a win by pin in the morning match. He then got another big pinfall finish for third place.
A pair of Warsaw grapplers took 4th place to advance.
Andrew Hankins won by major decision in the first round to secure his spot at 106 pounds.
KC Smith reversed the outcome of an early season matchup to advance at 132 pounds. His win by decision advanced him into the top four of a loaded bracket.
Warsaw’s other competitors were Noah Wilkins (190), Zander Moore (157), and Ethan Crawford (113).
Wilkins wrapped up his senior campaign with a 13-13 record and his first trip to Regionals.
Moore closed out his freshman campaign with a 20-17 record.
Crawford’s sophomore year ends at 20-15, but his loss to the eventual tournament champion will make him an alternate for next week.
The Tigers will head to East Chicago Central High School next week looking for a spot in the State Finals.
