SILVER LAKE – At Wednesday night's meeting, Silver Lake Town Council selected Hoch Associates as the architectural design firm for the new community center.
There were two bids for the project, one from Hoch at $186,600 and another from NuWay, a combined design and construction firm, for $466,000.
Jim Hoch spoke to the council at the meeting, explaining the company's practices. Hoch will be a single point of contact for the council as they navigate the design and construction process.
Council also accepted a $7,400 bid from Nivek Earthworks of Fort Wayne for demolition of the property at 1008 Roosevelt St. There were five total bids ranging from Nivek at the lowest to Smith Construction LLC of Fort Wayne at the highest bid of $76,218.
Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley said she is researching ways to livestream and archive recordings of meetings on YouTube.
Council approved town resident Randy Hartman's proposal for a trunk-or-treat event this year and told him to distribute fliers with the information. Trick-or-treating will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31.

• Approved sidewalk repairs totaling $15,690.
• Approved a new phone system for the fire department for $9,158.
