Warsaw Wins 17th Straight Girls Track Sectional

For the 17th straight season, the Warsaw girls track and field team added a trophy to its total, winning the IHSAA Girls Track and Field sectional at the Tiger Athletic Complex on Tuesday night with 150.5 points, over double second place Concord’s 74.6 . Wawasee finished in fourth place with 65 points, while Lakeland Christian took eleventh with six.
Warsaw had top three finishers in a variety of events, with Annabel Parker taking second place in the 100M hurdles and winning the 300M hurdles, Camryn Burner finishing as the runner up in the 100M dash before taking first in the 200M dash and the foursome of Sammi Rastrelli, Hannah Fisher, Elizabeth Vander Bie and Ella Laput taking second in the 4x800M dash. Abbigal Kohler finished third in the discus throw.
Some more winners for the Lady Tigers included Joey Rastrelli taking first in the 800M and 1600M run, Anna Stevens, Addison Williams, Claire Walters and Burner winning the 4x100M relay, Maddison Smalley, Laput, Eden Metz and Joey Rastrelli earning first in the 4x400M relay. The Lady Tigers’ lone win in the field events came in the pole vault competition, as Eliana Transparenti took first place.
Wawasee also sent its fair share of athletes to the regional. Mia Hodgson finished in second place in the 3200M run, while Kaydence Shepherd finished as the runner up in the long jump competition. The Lady Warriors’ lone win came in the discus competition, as Emma Yoder took first place. Brookelynn Gibson took third place in the event and will also travel to the regional. The lone athlete to both place and advance from Lakeland Christian was Lani Calizo, who took third place in the high jump.
Advancing athletes will compete at the Kokomo regional Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
