Warsaw Competes At State Golf Finals, Tied For 12th

With the first day of the IHSAA Boys Golf State Finals in the books from Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel, it was a solid opening round for the Warsaw Tigers, who used a first place finish in their sectional as well as a second place finish in regionals to earn a spot in the final tournament of the year. Warsaw ended day one tied with Trinity for 12th place overall with a team score of +37. In first place currently is Zionsville with a +16. The Tigers are currently eight strokes behind Bloomington South as the team eyes a top-10 finish.
Leading the way for Warsaw after 18 holes of action is sophomore Breckin Christner, who shot a +3 on the day to put himself tied for 12th place on the leaderboard. In the top 50 is senior Austin Craig, who’s +8 has him tied for 49th. Junior Robbie Finlinson wasn’t far behind, shooting a +9 to have him tied for 58th. Quinton Fifer’s +17 and Finn Bailey’s +18 had the sophomore and junior tied for 95th and in 99th place.

Leading the tournament is Fairfield’s Breyden Miller, who tore up the course on his way to shooting a -4 on day one. He was one of five athletes to shoot under par on the day, followed closely by Westfield’s Jake Cesare, Zionville’s Andrew Wall, Bloomington South’s Happy Gilmore and Leo’s Justin Hicks.
The tournament will conclude Wednesday afternoon. Golfers are scheduled to begin their final 18 holes at 8 a.m.
