MENTONE – Marjorie J. Murphy, 71, of Avon Park, Fla., and formerly from the Mentone area, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at the Bud and Donna Somers Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring, Fla.
Marjorie was born in Rochester, on Dec. 11, 1951, and was the daughter of Oren F. and Mildred M. Fincher Murphy of Etna Green and later Avon Park, Fla. She graduated from Tippecanoe Valley High School, in Akron, in 1970 and went on to graduate from Indiana University, Bloomington. She received her BSN degree in 1974 from IU, and started her career as a licensed registered nurse at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis. After several years at different hospitals in and around Indianapolis, Marjorie followed her parents to Avon Park, Fla., where she held several nursing jobs over the years in the area around Avon Park, and Sebring, Fla., throughout her career. She retired in 2016 after a long and successful career as a registered nurse.
Marjorie is survived by her brother, Philip A. (Mary Margaret) Murphy, of Indianapolis; nieces, Stephanie (Troy) Schull, of Mentone; and Shannon (Mark) Fowler, of Indianapolis; nephews, Michael B. (Amy) Murphy, of Akron; and Nicholas A. Murphy, of Chicago; and sister-in-law, Linda Murphy, of Silver Lake. Many great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive her. She is also survived by her dear friend of many years, Toby Minard, of Avon Park, Fla.
The family wishes to send a special thanks to Margie’s cousin Cynthia McClean and her husband Don McClean of Coal Grove, Ohio, who were a tremendous support and help to Margie in the days leading up to her death.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Mildred Murphy; brothers, Clarence E. Murphy and Kenneth L. Murphy; nephews, Clarence E Murphy Jr. and Shawn G. Murphy; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would also like to thank the nurses and personnel at Sunny Hills Assisted Living Facility in Sebring, Fla., St. Camillus Post-Acute and Rehabilitation Center in Sebring, Fla., and the Bud and Donna Somers Good Shepherd Hospice House in Sebring for the care they gave to Marjorie during her stay at their facilities.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 7 in the Harrison Center - Wooden Cemetery, 965 S. CR 800W, Etna Green.
The local arrangements have been entrusted to King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone.
