In what was a first for the Warsaw football program, the Tigers traveled down to Indianapolis Friday night for a meeting with one of the top 6A schools in the state, Warren Central. The game did not go the way of the Tigers, as the visitors lost 34-0.
In a preseason interview, head coach Bart Curtis mentioned that he was excited for this game regardless of the outcome, citing that it was the type of contest that would make the team better in the long run.
The downfall of the Tigers ended up being the turnovers. Warsaw had three in the first half, two of them turning into touchdowns for the home side. The visitors finished with four in the game.
Warsaw ran the ball 34 times for just 64 yards, only able to pick up a little under two yards a carry. The Tigers went 1-7 passing the ball for 10 yards through the air.
After some sloppy play a week ago that featured double digit penalties for over 100 penalty yards, Warsaw committed just one penalty for 10 yards in this one.
Quinton Brock led the team with 19 yards rushing on three carries. Drew Sullivan ran for 18 yards while Brody Duncan had 12. Robbie Hoffert had five yards rushing. Evan Davis had all 10 receiving yards for the Tigers.
Warsaw (1-1) returns home next week for the team’s first Northern Lakes Conference battle against Goshen. The RedHawks have begun the 2024 season at 0-2 after losing 56-0 to New Prairie Friday night.
